Our brigade has vacancies for new members, particularly for people who live in, or near, Seahampton. Becoming a volunteer firefighter is easier than most people think. We offer training ranging from bush firefighting, village firefighting and first aid, through to Medium Rigid Truck Licence, 4WD operation, etc.
We rely heavily on the support of people from all backgrounds and cultures in our community. The people that make up our Service are as different as the society that we protect. The brigade is made up of volunteers from all walks of life - men and women from different cultural backgrounds, age groups and professions.
As a volunteer organisation we recognise that you will not always be available to participate in brigade activities. However there is a certain level of commitment required to see you through your basic training, and to keep your qualifications up to date. This is generally around 8 hours per month, at a minimum and preferably 12 hours or more.
The brigade is divided into 'crews', each crew is managed by an Officer, and each crew performs at least one duty weekend per month at the station. This may be both days of the weekend, or just one day, depending on the crew. Tasks performed on the duty weekend include; responding to incidents, gear and truck inspection, training, cleaning the station. You'll be allocated to a particular crew at the discretion of the Captain.
There is also one dedicated training period per month (2 hours) for all members. The brigade also holds a General Meeting every two months, to allow for discussion of new policies, training, administrative, financial matters. These meetings typically last for 1-2 hours and are open to all members.
